He's a head tilter.

Is there anything cuter than the head tilt on a puppy?

Love your decoy.

A good decoy is essential for the sport of schutzhund, both for training and trialing.

Don't take your helper for granted!

An inability to say no.

That's what it boils down to.

Did I want to take a break? Yes. At the same time I know myself, and there is a reason I haven't had two dogs for many, many years. If it wasn't Rufus it would have been some other dog.

Next time.

Rufus, our newest NSD foster puppy.

Rufus is the result of an oops litter and was donated to NSD along with a bother and a sister. He is a Bernese Mountain Dog/Labrador Retriever Cross. His father was the Berner, his mother was a chocolate Lab. It will be interesting to watch him develop in looks and in temperament!

Glory took the new addition in stride, Enzo's gone, Rufus is here, whatever. She does however like the food that is left in his forgotten Kong or Buster Cube!

Bullet is fascinated by this one. Some puppies he hates and ignores as much as possible, this one he really likes.

Enzo has been recalled

Enzo goes for his advanced training in less than two weeks. He's ready. It will be interesting to see how he does in the next stage of his life.

I've decided to take the summer off from fostering to focus on my two dogs. It's been so long since we've only had two that I can't remember what it's like!

Have ball? Will love you.

Ah, Bullet. You are the best dog ever.

What does abuse look like?

This 5 year old St. Bernard.

You should have seen her Labrador.

The woman was so proud of their weights, feeding them huge cookies in front of admiring crowds. She was boasting about how her St. Bernard had reached the point where the vet's scale could no longer weigh him. Meanwhile the dog was wheezing at her feet because he had just walked across the building. As soon as she stopped he immediately dropped to the ground. His poor body!

The woman was blind to the fact that she's killing her dogs with kindness. What does her vet say?

It is our responsibility to keep our dogs fit in both body and mind. We are in charge of their diet and exercise. Dogs suffer from the same health problems linked to weight as we do... Their joints, bones and ligaments suffer, they can develop diabetes, their organs and cardiovascular system is compromised, their blood pressure goes up, etc.

There are health problems that cause weight gain, if you are concerned about your animal please visit your vet for a check-up and a blood test.

Dogs have too few years on this earth as it is, why decrease their lifespan even more by allowing them to get overweight?

Enzo, your golden is showing...

Enzo is the result of a breeding between a Standard Poodle and a Standard Poodle/Golden Cross. That makes him 1/4 Golden, 3/4 Poodle.

Does he shed? Yes. Not a lot, but we do find white/golden hairs around the house.

What's funny is that he's got odd patches of straight golden hair that stick out from between his curly white hair, here is an example on his neck:

He's got lots around his eyes:

But that's ok, we still love him... even though he sometimes looks like this:

Poor guy doesn't understand why he's always laughed at.
